Preparations...

The spit kits arrived and the flag was hoisted! ...as the first host Leicestershire Police planned an ambitious multi faceted day of activity!

Leicestershire Police

Event day: At the start of the day... Rik found himself thrown off Mansfield House Police Station in Leicester City Centre (on a tension wire)... Rik carried the flag down to the Deputy Mayor of Leicester Rory Palmer who officially launched the Pass It On campaign and handed the flag to the first hosts...  Leicestershire Police, Chief Constable Simon Cole accepted the flag to kick off the first day...

Descent from Mansfield House Police Station

There was a further surprise at the bottom of the rope! Rik handed over the flag but was handed something back ...an award from non other than the Prime Minister David Cameron... a Points of Light award.

Rik said 'I was both humbled and honoured, this award goes to all those fantastically hard working volunteers and all those individuals organisations and groups that have supported us'

... the award was presented by Deputy City Mayor Rory Palmer and Leicestershire Chief Constable Simon Cole...

The Points of Light Award

Feet firmly on the ground and having received the award Rik was off with an intrepid group of Leicestershire Police Volunteers together with Ann O'Leary from Anthony Nolan and his consultant hospital Dr Murray Martin... not to be forgotten were a police support team to keep them on the straight and narrow (stop them getting lost). The flag team visited every host all in a day, they were met at each venue by  a welcoming committee, take a look at the photo's...

That wasn't all... at about 4pm hosts were invited to send teams of 4 to the 'Pass It On Games' being held at Leicestershire Police Headquarters. It was a fun (but competitive) 'It's a Knockout' style competition between the host teams...

Pass It On Sports Games

But it didn't end there! ...after the games everyone was invited to stay just a little longer... The lecture theatre was the venue for the return of the flag from it's epic journey around the county and city, there were some short presentations and some prize giving, all polished off with a well earned buffet... oh I nearly forgot to say Leicestershire Police won the Pass It On Games!
